How is our FIRST LOVE?

Revelation 2:4-5 “”Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works…”

A personal message from heaven, given to one of the greatest churches of the New Testament.
They had such a rich heritage:
Founded by Paul, who remained longer with them than any other church. (Ac 19:10).
Exhorted by the great Apollos. (Ac 18:24) Pastored by Timothy. (1 Tim 1:3)
8 New Testament books were either written in or to this wonderful city (John, Ephesians, 1&2 Timothy, 1,2&3 John and Revelation).
It was even the final resting place of the mother of Jesus and the Apostle John.
Yet they are warned that they may soon disappear if they are not careful. (Rev 2:5)

Well taught and well discipled, they had become doctrinal “watchdogs”. (Ac 20:29-31)
The “First church of the Right”

But, watchdogs are rarely loving, and that was their issue.

“[If I] have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.”
“[If I] have not love, I am nothing.”
“[If I] have not love, it profits me nothing.”
(1 Corinthians 13:1-3)

According to Jesus, there is no greater commandment than “love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” AND “love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mt 22:37-39)

The Church that loses it’s first love will also, soon lose God’s light. (Rev 2:5)
Today there is not a single known Christian church in Ephesus.

Did you know that >9 churches permanently close in the U.S. every day?
Did you know that only 15% of U.S. churches are growing and only 2% of that growth is from new believers?

Is it possible that our churches are full of “Conservatives” rather than “Christians”?
Do we act more and more like the “right” rather than the “redeemed”?
How is our FIRST LOVE?

Today, revisit the great joy and love that first filled your heart upon hearing the good news of Jesus Christ. That all of your sins are forgiven and a glorious gift has been given to you for free. (Eph 2:8-9)
Share that joy with someone today.

Meditate on Psalm 21:1-6 today.
Does this describe you?
