For the Word of God is living and powerful

Job 32:10 „Listen to me, I also will declare my opinion.”
Job 32:17 „I too will declare my opinion.”

This Hebrew word translated „opinion” is only used by one man in the entire Bible…young arrogant Elihu.
He has waited for weeks perhaps, listening to Job and his three friends debate the cause of Job’s suffering. He has weighed their evidence and has concluded that no one has wisdom…EXCEPT HIM.

„Job speaks without knowledge, His words are without wisdom.” (Job 34:35)
Here we find an excellent definition of an opinion: „Wisdom lying within me alone.”

Regardless of age and gender, everyone has an opinion and the vast majority of our daily conversations are focused upon them.
Opinions about politics
Opinions about our employers
Opinions about our neighbors

Opinions are like noses…everyone’s got one!
But, just because you have a nose doesn’t mean that you have to be nosy.

As a Christian, how does the Lord want me to view my opinion?
Romans 12:16,18 „Do not be wise in your own opinion…live peaceably with all men.”
In other words, according to the Lord, opinions are less valuable than peace.

Whenever your opinions cause conflict remember this verse.

In fact, Scripture tells us to „learn…not to think [a literal translation is „have opinions”] beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up” (1 Cor 4:6)

We are called by God to be peace seeking individuals who have determined to share the written Word of God, rather than our own personal opinions.

True cultural change will only occur when the Word of God is proclaimed rather than the opinions of men argued.

Heb 4:12 „For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Remember this today when your speech becomes heated.
Ask yourself, „Am I defending my opinion or declaring the Word of God?”
Salvation comes from the one but not the other.

Give your opponent an opportunity for faith:
Romans 10:17 „Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”
