OPPOSING THE LORD IN PRAYER
„Then God’s anger was aroused because he went, and the angel of the Lord took His stand in the way as an adversary against him.”
The background for this moment can be found in Num 22:7-21…
It is a great and serious thing to return from praying and say, „Thus sayeth the Lord”.
When we have sought the Lord on a specific issue and have clearly heard His answer, we must be careful when we decide to return to Him with that same request again.
We must know the difference between „laboring with the Lord in prayer”
(to understand His will and work it out in our lives)
and „opposing the Lord in prayer”.
We don’t want to be like Peter who rebuked the Lord, saying, „this shall not happen…” after Jesus clearly told him His plans. (Mt 16:22)
Balaam returned to his prayer, seeking a different answer, simply because his greed increased when he saw the „more numerous and more honorable” offer.
Be careful when the Lord has clearly told you His will on a subject.
Remember the words of Jesus. „Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?” (Lk 6:46)
